GDPR Changes

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force on 25th May 2018. In response, Nominet made the following changes to comply with GDPR legislation:

  • The .UK WHOIS doesn’t display the registrant’s name or address, unless they have given permission to do so.
  • For registrants who want their data to be published in the WHOIS, Nominet provides mechanisms to allow them to give their explicit consent.
  • The Searchable WHOIS only includes name and contact details where registrants have consented for their data to be published.
  • An enhanced version of the Searchable WHOIS service is available free of charge to specific LEAs. Those users have access to the names and addresses Nominet holds.
  • The Privacy Services Framework has been discontinued
  • The rules for second-level registrations are aligned with the third-level rules. Addresses for service are  no longer required, and PO Boxes are accepted as valid address types.
  • Several changes have been made to rules and policies.
