Registration Data Directory Services (RDDS)

RDDS is an inclusive term for a range of services that allow third parties to understand the registration data held in a registry.

These services are not specifically focussed at registrars, but can be utilised by registrars, the current RDDS services operated by Nominet are as follows:

  1. Registration Data Access Protocol (RDAP).
    • A replacement protocol for WHOIS which utilises modern web standards.
  2. Searchable WHOIS.
  3. WHOIS
    • WHOIS is end-of-life, we currently only still have port 43 WHOIS for, .uk, .cymru and .wales.
  4. WHOIS2
    • WHOIS2 protocol is end-of-life and had only ever been operated for .uk
