14th May 2024 -– Planned Essential Maintenance

On Tuesday 14th May essential maintenance will be taking place from 10:00 – 12:00 UTC +1 (BST). During this maintenance window, connections may be reset and users may need to re-connect.

gTLD platform nameservers and host objects

Nominet’s gTLD platform currently utilises trailing dots on host objects and where they appear as nameservers. On a review of RFC5731, section 2.1 it states: “The trailing dot required when these names are stored in a DNS zone is implicit and MUST NOT be provided when exchanging host and domain names.”.

On 2nd April 2024 we amended our implementation in our gTLD testbed environment to not return the trailing dot.

On 14th May 2024 we will amend our implementation in our gTLD OT&E environment to not return the trailing dot, then on 21st May 2024 between 09:00 and 11:00 UTC +1 (BST) we will amend our gTLD Production environment to not return the trailing dot.

If you have any questions or experience any unusual behaviour after the changes are implemented, please contact our customer support team on (0)330 236 9480 or email [email protected].
