UK Registrar Governance Framework

.UK Standardisation introduces a new policy and contractual framework for .UK registrars which will come into effect on Transition date. Alongside these changes, we are reviewing how we work with registrars to support compliance against these new requirements as part of Nominet’s stewardship of the .UK namespace.

To support this work, we are developing the UK Registrar Governance Framework. This framework is intended to move away from a one-size-fits-all compliance model towards a more continuous, risk-based approach to registrar compliance and effective governance of the registry.

The detailed operation of the governance framework is still being developed and will continue to evolve over time. Advanced notice will be given before any new specific compliance measures come into effect.

What this means for registrars

All .UK policies and agreements introduced through Standardisation will come into effect on transition date, and registrars are expected to comply with them from that date.

Following transition, our focus will be on supporting registrars as they implement the new policy framework. We will also be observing and understanding emerging trends and issues, assessing available data points, and complaints. Where significant concerns arise, we will engage directly with registrars as appropriate.

Further updates will be published on this page as the framework develops.
