Updated date – GDPR compliance in the event of a “no deal” Brexit

Further to our previous announcement of ‘no deal’ Brexit clauses on 28 February, given the extension of the date the UK will leave the European Union (without a deal) from 29 March 2019 to 12 April 2019, we are updating our announcement to confirm that the .UK Registry-Registrar Agreement Schedule 3a ‘no deal’ data transfer clauses will be implemented on 12 April 2019 in the event of ‘no deal’ Brexit.

We reiterate that these provisions will only apply in the event that the UK leaves the EU without a withdrawal agreement in place, and that they will only apply to .UK registrars who process personal data in the EU pending a ruling that the UK’s data protection laws are considered ‘adequate’ under EU law.

Should the timing change again we will update registrars accordingly.
