Renewing domain names

At a glance

  • Our renewals procedure requires you to decide before expiry which domain names you want to renew on behalf of your customers
  • You can renew a domain name on your tag on behalf of the registrant up to 90 days + the Expiry Time. You can read more on the expiry and drops process here.
  • Nominet members can renew customer domain names for between one and ten years
  • Non-member registrars can renew domain names for two-year periods only

The renewals procedure requires registrars to decide before expiry which domain names they want to renew on behalf of their customers.  Renewing a domain name extends the expiry date for between one and ten years depending on the length of renewal that has been requested.  Registrars can renew a domain name on their tag on behalf of the registrant at any time by submitting a renewal request through our registrar systems.

Any renewals submitted after registration and before billing will change the registration to the total term (initial registration period + renewal period)

If you would like further information on the renewals system, full details of the renewals procedure are available, as well as of our email renewal reminder process.

If you have any questions on any aspect of the renewals system, please contact our customer services team on +44 (0) 330 236 9480, or send an email to [email protected] with the subject line ‘renewals’.
